                          | Kobo Shirotori Ocarina
 Ken'ichi Shirotori
 Ocarina made by a performer
 | Mr. Shiratori's Ocarina is all handmade by one person, from kneading clay to tuning and firing. His goal was to make the Ocarina as a musical instrument, and the selection of clay, the shape of the instrument, airway, singing hole, tone hole, tuning, surface processing, firing, etc., were all studied to create the current instrument.

My trip to Tohoku this time was to visit Kenichi Shirotori's "Ocarina Workshop" in Sendai. We've known each other since the year I was assigned to Abukuma Cave, so we've been doing business for 10 years already.
The first was a request for a concert at Takine Goten in Abukuma Cave.
Looking back on the beginning, there were a lot of interesting memories.
At the staff meeting, there was a lot of discussion about the possibility
that the concert might cause problems in the limestone cave, but after
bringing up the example of Shuho Cave, we finally got the go-ahead and
                      made it happen.
In Ocarina's performance, the humidity had a big impact. When he played Piccolo C, the sound became so heavy that it was difficult to hear the high notes.
I think it was also the first time Shirotori had experienced this.
Afterwards, I am also making a request in the concert of the forest of
Hatori Lake Kogen Regina. After this, I am envisioning a musical event on the eve of my handiwork tour, and I will be asked to perform there. Now I'm looking forward to it.
I took some photos, and during that time, I asked him about various points of Ocarina's construction.I don't think there are many Ocarina's that aren't half-assed and that are so solidly made.
As he, Shirotori, mentioned, the Ocarina sold elsewhere was made by a potter, not a musician.
From scales to making instruments of sound, melody and the musician's area of expertise is supposed to be.
A potter's skill is probably necessary, but I don't think there are many
people who have both of these things.
These things will take six months to a year to make, but it is the fate
of handmade products. Your own unique work is a handcrafted product. We are fortunate that "Shimosuke, Aizu, Tsugaru The specialized in Handicrafts " is able to handle these products.
