東南アジアに産するコックスラッカというカイガラムシの一種が分泌する樹脂状のもの。赤紫系の染料や臙脂(えんじ)の原料。  It is a resinous substance secreted by a type of coxlacqua, a type of copepod that grows in Southeast Asia. It is used to make reddish-purple dyes and cochineal dyes.
